Our new healthy baby girl, Charley Rose Dorak, was born Saturday morning at 6:19 am (February 13th 2010).
She weighed in at 6 pounds 5 ounces and had an Apgar score of 9 out of 10,
loosing 1 point for colour.

The "how did everything go" story...
We started a little late as the due date was Thursday February 11th 2010.
The 12th (Friday), Trish went in to her regular weekly doctor appointment in the
morning where she was checked out and told that the delivery would be induced on
the 18th (the following Friday) if it didn't come naturally.

Around 2:00 pm in the afternoon, Trish work up rather uncomfortably as her water
had broke. She had called the hospital and they said to come in and get checked
out.

The nurses at the hospital confirmed Trish's self diagnostic (often mistaken),
said she was 1 cm dilated and sent her home as there were no labour contractions
yet. They did inform Trish that this meant that the baby would HAVE to be
delivered in 24 hours (naturally or otherwise).

Upon my arrival home Trish had begun to have small contractions. These
progressed until about 9:45 pm when Trish decided the pain was worth a visit to
the hospital. She let me finish watching the Canadian Olympians come out at the
2010 Olympics opening ceremonies.
Once at the hospital they said that the contractions were still too infrequent
and she was still only 1 cm dilated. They urged us to go back home and get some
sleep as "it would be coming soon". They also gave Trish some Morphine and
Gravol to take the edge of for some rest.
We got to sleep around 12:00 am on the 13th (Saturday) and I slept until 3:00 am
when I was awoken by hospital bound Trish in much more pain than before. Trish
was afraid of getting into the car as they only soothing "bent over forward"
position would not be possible with a seatbelt on.
On arrival the nurses checked Trish out and confirmed we were now at 5 cm
dilation which meant off to the delivery room.
In the delivery room Trish had intentions of doing this a naturally as possible
found herself with pain enough to debate her decision. She was brought some N2O
and then given an IV just encase she opted for the epidural.

The N2O ended up to be just what Trish needed and was very entertaining to watch
as Trish got "happy drunk" on her gas. She would even get emotional if it didn't
work for one breath. Around 5:40 am after Trish gave the OK, I called Trish's
mom to come down as Trish was allowed one other person in the delivery room
while she gave birth.
At 6:00 am the baby was coming and Trish's urges to start pushing were
happening. The nurse took one leg an I took the other. Trish let out two or
three screams and a bit of emotion because they wouldn't giver her back her N2O
once she started pushing. At 6:19 am Charley was born! Trish's mom arrived at
6:30 am and was very excided to see Charley. Trish did it all like a champ and
only to a single stitch to prove that it happened.
We all stayed up gazing at new born Charley for what seemed 10 minutes but it
was already 12:00 pm. I went home for an hour nap and came back for what seemed
like another 10 minutes of watching Charley which by my math takes us to 12:00
am on the 14th (Sunday). I then went home for a nap and Trish even let the
nurses take care of baby Charley for 3 hours so she could nap too. On my return
feeding was going well enough that we were able to get a clean bill of health
from the doctor and head home for 1:00 pm.
Now we are home and I am typing while Trish catches up on some much needed rest
and between our many visitors who all agree that Charley is wonderful!!!!!

ps. Nipples & Putz (The Cats) don’t seem to mind her either
