Any questions or comments regarding the house send to Trish Park trish@dorak.ca. She will help you with anything she can! You just have to make sure that she doesn't talk your ear off, she loves talking about the house. Lots of neighbors have already e-mailed us, don't be afraid. First Time seeing our lot.We forgot to record when the was exactly, we think it was the beginning of
September 2003. There are pegs in the field that is soon to be our home. Trish was standing in the south east corner of our lot. The Milton tower is north of out lot. October 5th 2003.Out lot looks mainly the same other than a pile of small rock where Trish stood in the south east corner of our lot. We decided to play with some construction equipment as piping was being installed on Clark Dr. just west of Hwy5. October 19th 2003.Out lot finally looks different. Trish's Dad has been dying to get some mud on his new Jeep and we got him stuck on the way though our to be neighborhood. We started out a little late and the pictures are taken around 6:30pm. It looks like the road that will be going around our house has been dug up and sewage pipes placed around it. This is Trish's Dad and brother Joseph in most of the pictures. We are looking mainly in the South direction because there was only one path Trish would walk with the camera. November 2nd 2003.Well first off we attempted to go see our lot however weather didn't permit. It had been raining all night and was still raining. We got part way in and had to turn around as the Jeep was driving sideways with the 4wd on. We tried walking in however after Trish got stuck without one of her sandals we decided we didn't want to winch each other out. Around the corner we found someone else's house that wasn't quite done. This is the same layout as our house so it was neat to have this "preview". November 8th 2003.Just Trish and I this time, at our lot and finally dry enough to make it all the way. There were construction workers on machinery all around but no one said anything to us about being there. One even drove by in his Truck and smiled as he passed. They have finished burring the sewage pipes in the area and it look like they have laid out all the water pipes and fire hydrants but they haven't started digging yet. November 23rd 2003.Nick, Trish, Joseph (Trish's Brother), Lorenzo (Trish's dad) and Marie (Joseph's mom). I installed bran new tow hooks onto Trish's dad's Jeep before we went on our excursion. They got the fire hydrant in our lawn right near the corner of the street in place. Other then that just lots of off-roading. On our way out is was a little darker then when we first got there (only 1 hour). And nick got stuck on the way out and had to put those new hook in use on Trish's dad's Jeep. Then later Nick went over what looked like a tire grove but ended up being bigger than the car and cracked the windshield by landing on the front bumper. Anyways the pictures don't do the mud justice. December 26th 2003.WE HAVE A ROAD. Nick, Trish, Wolf (Nick's Dad), Judie (Nick's Mom) and Cass (Judie's Dad). Well we haven't been here in about a month and much has been done. All of the roads in the area have been completed. No more off-roading for me, even my parent's minivan made it right up to the front of our property. When we were done looking at the land we went around the corner and found a home that was open. We got to look around the same model home and see what the space looked like. January 1st 2004.Well after up late partying we (Trish, Mike and Nick) decided it would be a good idea to take out Joseph on a ride to go play in the dirt at our lot. No progress yet, as it looked the same as when we first found roads built. We got bored quickly and made some fun playing with the construction equipment.
January 24th 2004.Nut much progress since we were here last other than snow! Well it is January. We took a few pics of the area just to show, then we went to look for a warmer place to be. We quickly found another house similar to ours however this is the first one we have been in that was orientated the same way as the one we purchased. Ok, well it was exciting for us.
April 9th 2004.Well it might look like we haven't been here in a while however not much has happened since we were here last. We keep coming but there is not enough to take pictures of. Some snow has melted, that's about it. Well we have a green box on our lawn, but many houses around us have sprouted. We mainly took these pictures to demonstrate how fast these things go up.
April 17th 2004.It's a rainy day today. Our shoes got really muddy. Believe it or not, we got more muddy on the road then in the dirt. I tried to get some good shots of the homes around ours as we haven't had much progress, but the neighbors behind us have basement walls up now. Not to mention that there are some houses only a few streets away that are almost ready to be lived in.
May 1st 2004.A Hole! A Hole! We now have a hole. Finally some really progress towards a home. The hole is only about 4 feet deep so we got to see where the wires are coming in and where the drainage pipes are. Other than that lots of mud as it has been raining the prior to us being there. We then walked across the neighbors' houses as some had floors but no walls. Now we have to come back more often!
May 8th 2004.WALLS!! We went from having a hole to basement walls in just one week. Nick, Trish, Lorenzo, Joseph, Marie, Jen and Patrick were all there playing in the mud (and there was lots to play with). The mud was pretty thick and all of us went home with our shoes in bags. In this same week, the dug some more, put some rocks down, laid the footings, then ran the weeping tile and made the concrete basement walls. Anyways we will have to take a mid week trip so we don't miss any progress.
May 12th 2004.So we weren't missing any progress this time! And not the much happened. At least the road was dry, so we got to walk around and take some pictures. We got some good one up close and Nick got on the top of the neighbors' second floor and got some pics down in our basement. Very sunny warm afternoon. Trish would like you to notice how BIG our back yard is.
May 15th & 16th 2004.Ok Trish and I went on the 15th to see the lot, had lots of fun and took lots of pictures, however all of the pictures we had got lost when our PDA ran out of batteries. So these pics are from the 16th with Wolf and Judie (my parents), but nothing changed. I have parked in our garage so you can get some perception (and it was fun). Some are from the second floor of the neighbor behind us. I hope I got enough pictures. ;)
May 27th 2004.First floor in progress. Walls are up and foam is started. Trish and I went after work today because we were gone for a bit due to the May 24 weekend to Chicago. There were still guys working on some of the other houses and the one beside ours was having the footings laid while we were here. Still can't believe how fast it goes.
June 2nd 2004.Second floor in progress. Walls are up but no roof yet. It had been raining the past two day and stopped in time for us to check things out. Trish got out of the Jeep and seen come abandoned rubber boots. Since she had her work shoes on she borrowed them, (and put them back when we left). They sure build fast here!
June 5th 2004.The Roof is on. It is truly amazing, (in my opinion), how fast it goes up. Trish and I came by with my parents (Wolf and Judie Dorak) and Trish's brother Joseph around 11:30am today. There were still workers, working hard this Saturday getting the porch overhang done. Most of the pictures were from out side as we didn't want to disturb them. We couldn't stay away. Trish's dad wanted to see the house also so, we loaded up and went back around 6:30pm today. The workers and the porch roof were done for the day. We got to walk around and went through the house, (and others in the area) for about three hours!! Boy were we covered in dust and dirt after all of that.
June 11th 2004.Windows and concrete for the porch. We also noticed that they have done most of the pluming. We did order all of our windows to be opening at $171.20 for each, however we have a problem. Only one windows per room opens and the others are screwed down (4 screws per window). At the price we paid I DON'T WANT HOLES IN THE WINDOWS. We also seen our brick colour on the street. Dark red (Dubenet) just like Trish wanted it.
June 16th 2004.We got Brick. Well half way at least. Not much inside the home, except they have cleaned up a bit. Oh, and our stairs are in so we got to go in the basement for the first time. It was a little dark down there for too many pic. Anyways, Trish LOVES the brick colour.
June 19th 2004.Not much since last trip. We have more brick (about 1/2 floor till done) and Pillars on the porch. Trish, Lorenzo, Marie, Joseph, Jessica (Marie's other daughter) and I were all here today to explore. Joseph helped me to dig out some of the down pipes for me to take pictures of. Other than that Lorenzo played on some of the scaffolding outside for laying brick.
June 23rd 2004.Fame walk day. Trish and I were escorted by the builder (Michael) and got an official tour of our home. They have finished with the brick on the outside and were finalizing the porch while we were there. The electrical was almost all done too. The electrician was in putting in the electrical panel while we were there. Oh, and the basement floor has been laid, we were even walking on. One more thing, on our way there, we seen some tents at the sales centre. On our way home we stopped by and asked what was up. Apparently Mattamy is revealing phase 12 on Saturday (June 26th 2004) and these people have been camping since Sunday (June 20th 2004) for the best lots.
June 24th 2004.Wow, one day. Trish, Joseph, Lorenzo, Marie and I were all out there
tonight. I got some pictures of the basement, our electrical panel and
the wow part, all of the insulation. We checked out some of the other
homes in the area and seen our neighbors at the other end of our row of towns.
It started raining while we were out and the dirt instantly changed to mud.
Everyone was covered to their knees except Joseph, he was up to his arm pits.
June 26th 2004.Nothing much today. We came up with Trish's Mom Laura and her boyfriend
Barry. The have put the drywall into the house on the floors. None
of it has made it to the walls yet. The furnace has been put in the
basement but just chained to an steel support bar. I guess these get
stolen often. The electrical box on the outside of the house has been
attached, and part of the gas meter. I also got some pictures down the
roads so you can see the progress of the area. Trish was so happy when we
left that her mom likes the house.
June 29th 2004.Just a quick trip today with Trish and I. Are furnace is installed and
most of the duct work in the basement is done. The insulation in the
kitchen ceiling where the over hang is has been removed (probably for repair).
They have also laid some rock in the garage for the cement. We peaked on
our neighbors and two of the six in our row of towns has the drywall installed.
All and all a nice quiet evening before we head out for the Canada Day long
weekend.
July 4th 2004.Only Trish and I today. There was not much changed since we were here last. The kitchen ceiling was still apart and it looks like it was leaving here. I hope they have it cleared up before we move in. Other than that we walked around for a bit and didn't see anything worth taking a picture of. If you would like to see what has gone on, look at the pictures from June 29th, 2004.
July 7th 2004.Wow, drywall. Trish and I came up right after work. I got some
new rims on the Jeep yesterday and got to fling mud around with them.
Anyway, back to the house. They have put all of the drywall in and already
have putty on it. We also have the vinyl siding being put up while we are
here. Trish's dad Lorenzo came with Marie, Joseph and Jessica shortly
after we were there to look around. Finally, the best part of the day came
when I (Nick) walked on into someone's garage and stood on a piece of hard wall
styrofoam. Under my weight a nail from a board under the styrofoam went
through it, through my shoe, but only halfway through my foot.
July 19th 2004.Trish and I went to see our house for the first time since our vacation (click
here to see). Trish's dad met us there to check things out.
Trish's tub is in and she got to sit in it. Our windows have been fixed
and all now open. The garage has a door and concrete poured in it.
All of the walls have been sanded and primed. The ceilings have been
stucco-ed. I noticed a crack in the up-stairs ceiling hallway. I
would have taken more pictures but the camera's batteries were dead and Trish
decided this would be a good day to leave her Palm with built in camera at home.
July 24th 2004.Many of us today, let me list them. Trish, Lorenzo, Marie, Joseph,
Jennifer, Jessica, Patrick and I (Nick) were all there. We took two cars
and stopped by on out way from Hamilton (1/2 hr. via Hwy.6 and 401). We
have pickets on our porch now, they look alright. We also have TILE!!!
We have tile in the kitchen, hallway, powder room and guest bathroom. The
ensuite bathroom doesn't have the tiles in yet because the ones we wanted got
backordered. Earlier in the day today we went to the design center and
picked a replacement. Click Here
for our colour choices. I got to take more pictures today of
things that I missed from last time we were here. One of our neighbors had
e-mailed me and asked about how the stairs looked from the living room. I
took a few extra pictures of how you can see it from the living room and
kitchen. Finally I took an extra picture of the view from our guest room
windows of the greenbelt in front of the house.
July 25th 2004.Trish Park, Laura Park, Barry Blair, Jennifer Phillips, Patrick and I were all back for another look see. Nothing new, but we got to show Trish's mom for a change. We were a little late and Laura and Barry already looked around without us. Nothing special happened really, we determined that we have a 50 U.S. Gallon water heater. Oh, and we spent all day picking out appliances. Click Here for our colour/appliance choices.
July 28th 2004.Alright something to write about. Trish, Lorenzo, Marie, Joseph,
Jessica and Me Nick all showed up today after work. The doors are all up
in the house and the frame around the windows. The linoleum in the laundry
room has been put down. They have put up the shelves in our master walk-in
closet. I took some pictures from inside the garage to show the light from
the door in there. Also they have pre-wired the ceiling in the garage with
an outlet for a garage door opener. How thoughtful, they also did this in
the porch for Christmas lights. Lastly that's Trish's dad Lorenzo and I
in the driveway, where we could both fit but I heard plans for a sidewalk on our
side.
July 30th 2004.Electricity, Nick's exciting time. Trish and I met up with one of our
neighbors here and gave them the royal tour. She had found this site on
the internet and has been e-mailing Trish for a while now. We have all of
the top 10 ugliest light fixtures displayed thought our new home. They
have also freshly put up another coat of paint. I took some pictures of
the spray paint on our lawn, Yellow for Gas line and Red for electrical.
The last picture is from our driveway of the view of the neighbor's build site
that came out to meet us.
August 4th 2004.Nothing new today. Trish, Lorenzo, Marie, Joseph, Jessica and Me Nick
all showed up today after work. It was their first time seeing our light
fixtures and playing with the electricity. The only thing that I took
pictures of is some clear examples of the mess up they did on our windows.
We asked our design consultant Angela (ask for someone competent if you get her)
for all opening windows from them as we wanted them to function and look all the
same and nice. She wrote down "One additional operating windows per room
(Quantity 8) See Sketch)". I had asked her several times to clarify this
(All operating windows (Quantity 8))and she refused. Well the builder
installed an additional operating window per room and left the others
non-operating. When we brought this to Mattamy's attention, they took the
screws out of the non-operating windows and filled them with calking. As
you can see I am not impressed and will bring this up to Mattamy!
August 8th 2004.Wow, tile in the ensuite bathroom and cupboards and counters ready to go in.
Trish, Lorenzo, Marie, Joseph, Jessica and Me Nick all came by today. The
have installed the floor and wall tile in the main area of the master bedroom
ensuite. These are the ones we had to go in and re-select because our
others were back-ordered. The also had our cupboards and counter tops in
the house but not installed. We got to show off the colours and styles we
picked out to everyone. The garage door was painted, (we weren't too sure
if we seen this before). The sub-pump was installed and working in the
basement along with the furnace working as well. Oh, the stairs have been
stained where they are not covered by carpet and we also have all of the face
plates for the wall outlets and switches on.
August 11th 2004.Trish's second favorite part is in, the counters and cupboards. Trish,
Lorenzo, Marie, Joseph, Jessica and Me Nick all showed up today after work.
Ok, so the cupboards and counters, what else? The washroom mirrors are all
in. All of the closet sliding doors are on. The control panel for
the furnace is in (was in before but this is the first picture). The
basement sink is in and the water heater is installed. It was supposed to
be in front of the furnace but I picked it up and moved it between the wall and
the furnace a few weeks back for more room. The vinyl ceiling on the porch
has been installed. The gas meter has been moved from the side of the
porch to the corner of the house, closer to the wall. The ground has blue
spray painted line outside for the water pipes. And finally, I parked my
car in the garage for the first time. I have my foot on the bumper so you
can tell the amount of space on either side (Nick's shoe = 12 inches).
August 13th 2004.Tile in the ensuite shower. Nick, Trish and Jen all went on our way
home from Hamilton tonight. This was our fist time visiting our house at
night. Trish being the Halloween buff really enjoyed this. Now that
the tile in the ensuite shower is done there are no more tiles to be laid.
The only other thing that looked different since the last visit was the vent
over top of the hood fan to out-side. They had all of the windows locked
up around the house except the basement ones and the front door. We
corrected this problem for next time we want in.
August 18th 2004.Can't get much more done then this. Trish and I went after work today
to check things out. All of the carpet has been laid, Upstairs and on the
Main floor. This was a big deal as they wait until the end for this and we
had this upgraded to burber. All of the toilets are in. All of the
sinks, Kitchen, two upstairs bathrooms and the pedestal sink in the powder room.
All of the faucets are in and the look GREAT. We had them all upgraded
except the one in the kitchen because we had a spare from when we were in the
apartment. There is a shower Curtin bar in the guest shower. The gas
pipe has been installed and run to the furnace, hot water tank and (another
upgrade) to the back yard for a BBQ. They messed this up as well by
installing the pipe to the left of the patio door instead of to the right as
requested. I took a picture in the laundry room of how they have left the
pipes for the appliances. We got another from under the kitchen sink of
the connectors for the dishwasher. Outside they have put our patio stones
around the porch and they have put a smother coat of concrete around the bottom
skirt of the house to make it look even.
August 20th 2004.Oops, didn't mean to go see the house today. Trish and I (Nick) were on
our way to go to the Wal-Mart out by her old office in Mississauga when I forgot
to turn off of the highway and one more exit was the one to our house.
They have put the edges in on the carpet where it changes from tile to carpet.
They also have the tension rods in for the shower curtains. Not much use
these will be as we already have one shower door, and were going to go get the
other when I missed the exit. We got to measure the opening for the
ensuite shower door and the best way to remember it was to take a picture.
We met some neighbors while we were out today (very nice people), and got to
talk a bit. Well, after a bit of talking and seeing each others homes it
was 2 hours later (time to go shopping).
August 22nd 2004.Rise and Shine! Laura, Trish and I (Nick) all woke up early on Sunday
(8:00am) to go see out home. It was locked up pretty good today and I had
to climb in through the basement windows and unlock the front door. Not
much to talk about as they have not progressed any since we were there last on
Friday.
August 29th 2004.Wolf, Judie, Jeff, Trish and Nick went today after lunch. It had been
rainging and it was pretty muddy. I got my shoes covered in mud trying to
look for open windows or doors around the house. None were open however we
have shutters on the outside! We got to walk around the neighbourhood and
check out some of our soon-to-be neighbour's homes look like.
September 2nd 2004.Judie, Trish, Nick and Johanne? Today was our PDI and Johanne was the Mattamy person who led us around our home. We couldn't find much except bumps and scratched in the paint on the walls here and there. We complained about our opening windows, the gas line in the wrong place on the back of the house and a chip in our bullnoise in the ensuite tile. I concider that pretty good. We got to our home at 8:00 am for the PDI and ended up leaving at 9:45 am.
September 5th 2004.Mike, Chris (his new lady), Trish and I (Nick) all went down today after waking up (2:00 pm). The place was locked up good, and we couldn't get in. I did notice that the post-it notes on the walls we used to point our the minor wall blemishes were still on the wall, so I don't think anything has been done yet. Anywho, we mainly came by for me to awe and walk around the block.
